Overview

The University of Pennsylvania's Microfinance Club will host its first conference: "Microfinance: Poverty's Macro Solution?" on March 30, 2007 in the Wharton School's Huntsman Hall.

The conference will feature keynote speakers Alex Counts, CEO and President of the Grameen Foundation, and Mary Ellen Iskenderian, the CEO and President of Women's World Banking. Additionally, the program will include a number of panels featuring scholars and practitioners working in the microfinance industry. Guests attending the conference will be given the opportunity to choose panels based on interest. Some panel topics include:

  • Mainstreaming Microfinance: MFIs as an Investment Vehicle
  • Cultural Effects: Empowering Women through Microfinance
  • How to Get Involved: The Next Generation of Microfinanciers.
